Cowboys & Indians
2004

Created when I was a new transplant to the Midwest, this work is influenced by my fascination with Kansas City’s historical and present roles in the formation of North American culture. I perceive Kansas City as a unique crossroads location in North America, and an integral location to migration from East to West coasts and North and South boundaries, both in yesteryear and today.

The images of baby boys dressed in costumes of Cowboys and Indians is a metaphor for Kansas City’s past and current role in American history. The boys (actually the same boy dressed in each costume) are play-fighting with various paired objects relating to Americana.
